The rollout of 5G is set to unleash massive opportunities for new innovations and technologies, in particular in Internet of Things (IoT) and smart living. To help Hong Kong’s start-ups ride this wave and fast-track their growth, Microsoft, Cyberport, and HKT have launched the Microsoft 5G IoT Makerspace with techs and perks to match.
Located at Cyberport, the Makerspace integrates an IoT experience zone with makers workspace for start-ups to explore and experiment their IoT solutions with the support of HKT’s lightning-fast 5G network and Microsoft’s cutting-edge technologies. They can also showcase their innovative solutions to attract and drive business adoption and collaboration.
Speaking about the collaboration, Cyberport CEO Peter Yan said, “one of Cyberport’s goals is to strengthen the competitiveness of start-ups by connecting them with well-established tech companies and by creating synergy. The launch of the Microsoft 5G IoT Makerspace is an excellent example of how Cyberport’s anchor tenants and important industry partner – such as Microsoft – can help our start-ups seize 5G and IoT opportunities through technology enablement”.
Leveraging Cyberport’s start-up community and HKT’s 5G services, the Makerspace also offers workshops and expert advice to upskill start-ups and provide go-to-market support to commercialise their solutions. They will also be eligible for free Azure cloud credits, one-year technical consultations with Microsoft experts, and seasonal technical training sessions.
Seven start-ups are now featured at the Makespace, including Cherrypicks, Web-on (Asia) Ltd., Bamboo Technologies, RIB Group, Hong Kong RFID, RaceFit, and MAD Gaze, a Cyberport community company that specialises in AR glasses. More start-ups’ innovations are welcomed to utilize the Microsoft 5G IoT Makerspace by registering here.
